八字，又称「四柱」，是中国传统命理学的核心工具。它根据一个人出生的年、月、日、时，用天干地支来表示，形成四组干支组合——年柱、月柱、日柱、时柱——共八个字，故称「八字」。
天干有十个：甲、乙、丙、丁、戊、己、庚、辛、壬、癸。地支有十二个：子、丑、寅、卯、辰、巳、午、未、申、酉、戌、亥。天干与地支按固定顺序组合，形成六十甲子循环。
每个天干和地支都有对应的五行属性：甲乙属木，丙丁属火，戊己属土，庚辛属金，壬癸属水。地支的五行更为复杂，因为每个地支中可能藏有多个天干（称为「藏干」）。
理解八字的关键在于：它不是迷信，而是一套基于天文历法的时间编码系统。每个时间点都有其独特的五行能量分布，而这个分布决定了一个人与生俱来的能量格局。
BaZi, also known as "Four Pillars of Destiny," is the core tool of traditional Chinese metaphysics. Based on a person's birth year, month, day, and hour, it uses Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches to form four pairs — Year Pillar, Month Pillar, Day Pillar, and Hour Pillar — totaling eight characters, hence "BaZi" (Eight Characters).
There are ten Heavenly Stems: Jia, Yi, Bing, Ding, Wu, Ji, Geng, Xin, Ren, Gui. There are twelve Earthly Branches: Zi, Chou, Yin, Mao, Chen, Si, Wu, Wei, Shen, You, Xu, Hai. Stems and Branches combine in a fixed sequence to form the Sixty Jiazi cycle.
Each Stem and Branch has a corresponding Five Elements attribute: Jia/Yi = Wood, Bing/Ding = Fire, Wu/Ji = Earth, Geng/Xin = Metal, Ren/Gui = Water. Earthly Branches are more complex, as each may contain multiple hidden Stems.
The key to understanding BaZi: it is not superstition but a time-encoding system based on astronomical calendrics. Each moment has its unique Five Elements energy distribution, and this distribution determines a person's innate energy pattern.

Determining the Day Master's strength is the first step in BaZi analysis and the fundamental basis for naming direction. Key factors include:
1. Month Branch: Does the Day Master receive support from the Month Branch? This is the most important factor, accounting for roughly 40% of the assessment. 2. Sitting Branch: How does the Day Pillar's Earthly Branch affect the Day Master — supporting or draining? 3. Other Pillars: The combined effect of Year and Hour Pillar Stems and Branches on the Day Master. 4. Hidden Stem Emergence: Whether hidden Stems within Branches emerge to strengthen or weaken the Day Master.
A strong Day Master means the person has abundant innate energy but may be overly rigid or stubborn. Names should use "draining" (Eating God/Hurting Officer) or "controlling" (Direct/Indirect Officer) elements to channel excess energy.
A weak Day Master means insufficient innate energy, requiring external support. Names should use "generating" (Direct/Indirect Resource) or "supporting" (Rob Wealth/Friend) elements to strengthen.
喜用神与忌神
Favorable and Unfavorable Gods
确定日主强弱后，接下来要找出「喜用神」和「忌神」。喜用神是对日主有利的五行元素，忌神是对日主不利的五行元素。
对于日主偏强的人：喜用神通常是食伤（泄日主之气）、财星（消耗日主之力）、官杀（克制日主之势）。忌神通常是印星（继续生扶已经过强的日主）和比劫（同类增强）。
对于日主偏弱的人：喜用神通常是印星（生扶日主）和比劫（同类帮助）。忌神通常是食伤（泄弱日主之气）、财星（消耗弱日主之力）、官杀（克制弱日主）。
取名时，名字中的五行应该尽量与喜用神一致，避免忌神的五行。这就是为什么「缺什么补什么」是错误的——你缺的五行可能恰好是你的忌神。
举例：一个日主为弱水的人，八字中缺火。按「缺什么补什么」的逻辑，应该补火。但火是弱水的「财星」（水克火为财），对弱水日主来说是忌神——补火反而会让本就虚弱的水更加疲惫。正确的做法是补金（金生水）来增强水的力量。
After determining Day Master strength, the next step is identifying "Favorable Gods" (Xi Yong Shen) and "Unfavorable Gods" (Ji Shen). Favorable Gods are Five Elements beneficial to the Day Master; Unfavorable Gods are detrimental.
For a strong Day Master: Favorable Gods are typically Eating God/Hurting Officer (draining), Wealth (consuming), and Officer/Seven Killings (controlling). Unfavorable Gods are Resource (further strengthening an already strong Day Master) and Rob Wealth/Friend (same-element reinforcement).
For a weak Day Master: Favorable Gods are typically Resource (generating) and Rob Wealth/Friend (same-element support). Unfavorable Gods are Eating God/Hurting Officer (draining), Wealth (consuming), and Officer/Seven Killings (controlling).
When naming, the Five Elements in the name should align with Favorable Gods and avoid Unfavorable Gods. This is why "supplement whatever is missing" is wrong — what you're missing might be your Unfavorable God.
Example: A person with a weak Water Day Master whose chart lacks Fire. Following "supplement what's missing" logic, you'd add Fire. But Fire is weak Water's "Wealth" (Water controls Fire = Wealth), making it an Unfavorable God — adding Fire would exhaust the already weak Water further. The correct approach is adding Metal (Metal generates Water) to strengthen Water.

Practical Application of BaZi in Naming
理论讲完了，来看实际案例。假设一个宝宝出生于2026年4月1日上午10点（农历丙午年二月十四巳时）。
排出八字：年柱丙午（火火），月柱辛卯（金木），日柱壬申（水金），时柱乙巳（木火）。日主为壬水。
分析日主强弱：壬水生于卯月（春季，木旺水休），月令不帮日主。坐支申金（金生水），有一定支持。年干丙火克水，年支午火克水。时干乙木泄水，时支巳火克水。综合来看，日主壬水偏弱。
确定喜忌：日主弱水，喜金（生水）和水（同类扶助），忌火（克水）和土（克水之源）。木为中性偏忌（泄弱水之气）。

Strength analysis: Ren Water born in Mao month (spring, Wood thriving, Water resting) — Month Branch doesn't support Day Master. Sitting Branch Shen Metal (Metal generates Water) provides some support. Year Stem Bing Fire controls Water, Year Branch Wu Fire controls Water. Hour Stem Yi Wood drains Water, Hour Branch Si Fire controls Water. Overall: Day Master Ren Water is weak.
